What are Botox treatments and how do they work?

Botulinum A injections, commonly referred to as Botox are the mostly widely used method of achieving a more youthful look. Lines that appear with movements such as smiling or lowering eyebrows are targeted with this treatment. These lines are associated with movements of major muscles on the face, and by carefully injecting Botox into key areas you reduce the movement of the muscle and therefore the appearance of these lines.

Over time, the repeated movement of these underlying muscles can lead to the appearance of deeper lines in the skin, and earlier treatment with Botox can help in reducing the onset and severity of these lines later in life.

What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

The aging process often leads to a reduction in volume in key areas of your face. This can lead to the appearance of wrinkles, and a general reduction in skin quality and youthfulness,

The dermal fillers used here at Surrey Aesthetica are all based on hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is natural substance that is found in the body, and careful injection of it into specific areas of the face increases the volume in that area and offsets the effects of aging.

At Surrey Aesethetica, we will conduct a full aesthetic evaluation of your face and create a bespoke treatment plan based on your needs.

Commonly treated areas include cheeks, lips and the deep lines that form between the mouth and nose.

How long will Botox treatment last?

On average Botox injections will last about three months. For some people it might last a little longer or a little shorter.

How long will it take before I can see my skin looking refreshed and youthful?

It normally takes a few days before you’ll notice some effect, and peak effect will occur at around two weeks after your Botox treatment.

I’ve never had Botox treatment before, what can I expect?

Your skin will be thoroughly cleaned, and photographs will be taken for documentation purposes. The injections themselves usually take around ten minutes to carry out, and use a very fine needle to minimise discomfort.
We’ll need to repeat photographs afterwards. There is normally a follow up at two weeks after the first treatment, where we can top up with further injections if needed, which is included in the price of the treatment.

Will I have any bruising after my Botox treatment?

By using very fine needles we tend to minimise the amount of bruising. Sometimes however, it is unavoidable especially around the eyes where the skin is thinner than elsewhere. If bruising occurs, it will normally last for 2-3 days then resolve.
For this reason, we would advise against having Botox treatment a few days before any major function or event that you might be attending.

Are there any reasons why I shouldn’t have Botox?

You cannot have Botox treatment whilst pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a number of rare medical conditions. This will be discussed with you when you attend the clinic or over the telephone if you wish, prior to booking an appointment.
